Luke Zacharias

I am the founding partner of Zacharias law.  I have a passion for helping people.  In the context of law, people often need assistance during some of the most difficult times of their lives.  I care about being able to make a real difference during these difficult times.

I believe in giving back to my community.  I have focused much of my community involvement on helping those in need.  Below are some of the community organizations that I have been involved with.

I grew up in Chilliwack and graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley with a Bachelor of Arts in 1999.  I attended law school at the University of British Columbia and graduated with my Juris Doctor in 2002.  I have been a member of the British Columbia Bar since completing my articles in 2003.

I care about obtaining great results for my clients.  Many cases are resolved by way of negotiation, however, this is not always possible.  Below are some of my trial results.

  1. Godbout v Notter, 2019 BCSC 1481 (court costs for personal injury action)
The judge awarded my client double costs for the trial and awarded 1.5 times the double costs for two counsel attending trial.
  2. Gascoigne v Desjardins Financial Security Life Assurance Company (Desjardins Insurance), 2019 BCSC 1241
In this case, our client’s disability benefits were terminated.  The court ordered that the disability benefits had to be reinstated and payment be continued going forward.  The court also awarded $30,000 in aggravated damages against the insurance company.
  1. Noftle v Bartosch, 2018 BCSC 766 (personal injury)
In this case, ICBC offered my client $300,000 to settle.  At trial we sought $1.2 million. The judge awarded $1.18 million.
  2. Godbout v Notter, 2018 BCSC 1043 (personal injury)
In this case ICBC denied liability offering no compensation until making a small offer on the eve of trial.  The judge determined the other driver to be fully liable and awarded $583,000.
  3. Schlachter v. Foster, 2017 BCSC 300 (personal injury)
In this case, ICBC found my client to be fully at fault for the accident.  The judge determined the other driver to be fully at fault for the accident.
  4. Renaerts v. Renaerts, 2015 BCSC 1028 (personal injury)
In this case ICBC offered$100,000 to settle the case.  The judge awarded $321,000.
  5. Toor v. Aujla, 2015 BCSC 1104 (removal of CPL)
  6. Derksen v. Canada Safeway Limited, 2013 BCSC 2346 (production of privileged documents)
  7. Spenst v. Reemeyer, 2013 BCSC 1394 (production of privileged documents)
  8. Hood v Zulyniak, 2013 BCSC 2616 (document production in a fast track action)
  9. Jarvie v. Banwait, 2013 BCSC 337 (commercial lease and estate litigation)
  10. Hood v. Wrigley, 2013 BCSC 231 (personal injury)
In this case ICBC offered $50,000.  The judge awarded $253,000.
  11. Bains v. Bhullar, 2012 BCSC 1418 (real estate transaction)
In this case, we successfully established fraud against a vendor in the sale of a blueberry farm.
  12. Prins Greenhouses Ltd. v. Garden Back to Eden Organic Ltd., 2010 BCSC 1939 (debt claim upheld at the Court of Appeal)
  13. Learie v. Garg, 2010 BCSC 1938 (foreclosure and equitable set-off)
  14. Riverside Equipment Inc. v. Tige Industries Ltd., 2009 BCSC 1921 (contractual interpretation and contra proferentem)
In addition to these judgments, I have successfully run numerous jury trials, which do not result in reported decisions.

Brian Vickers at Zacharias Law

Brian Vickers

I was born and raised in Abbotsford and grew up playing baseball with the Abbotsford Cardinals. With the guidance and support of my local community, I went on to play for various universities in Canada and across the United States. After exhausting that dream with a short professional career, I returned to British Columbia to obtain my Juris Doctor from Thompson Rivers University in 2014. I was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2015.

Since being called, I have developed a strong record in the courtroom, running six Supreme Court trials recently. My most notable achievements have come in the areas of personal injury, employment, defamation, commercial law, wills and estates litigation, real estate, and insurance defence law.

My primary focus is to provide value to my local community. Whether this is accomplished by providing practical legal advice in a clear and easy to understand manner or by advocating for clients at trial, I am committed to working with my clients to alleviate stress and dispel any uncertainty regarding the litigation process. My overriding objective is that every client is better off for having retained me.

The desire to provide value to my community is a trait shared by all members of Zacharias law, as are our strength, comfort, and familiarity in the courtroom.

I also strive to provide value to the community beyond the office or the courtroom. The following are some of the community organizations that I have been involved with:

Board Member – Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fraser Valley (2017 – present)

Regional Counsel Member – United Way of the Lower Mainland (2018 – present)

Campaign Cabinet Member – United Way of the Lower Mainland (2017 – present)

I am passionate about helping people and making a positive difference in my clients’ lives when it comes to their various legal problems. I understand the difficult and stressful nature of litigation and I will be there to provide legal advice and guidance each step of the way.

I was born in New Westminster and grew up in Maple Ridge, BC. Upon completion of high school, I attended Simon Fraser University and obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in 2012, majoring in Psychology. I subsequently attended law school at Thompson Rivers University where I received my Juris Doctor in 2015.

Prior to joining Zacharias law as a founding member of the firm, I practiced at a mid-sized regional firm in the Fraser Valley where I completed my articles and practiced as an Associate following my call to the British Columbia Bar in 2016.

My main practice areas include personal injury, disability law, commercial litigation and civil litigation. I have appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia.

Outside of the office, I enjoy being involved in my community. I am currently the Vice President of the Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce and am a founding member of the Chilliwack Women’s Leadership Collective. In my spare time, I enjoy soccer, golf, snowboarding and travelling when time permits.

I am a civil litigator and associate at Zacharias law. I maintain a broad civil litigation practice and advise clients in a number of areas of law including employment, estate, and commercial litigation. I also have experience in personal injury, family, disability insurance, and traffic law.

Originally from Nelson, British Columbia, I worked in construction in Northern Alberta and the Kootenays prior to becoming a lawyer. I built a strong work ethic in this industry, which I have been proud to incorporate into my legal practice today. I also understand that just like in construction, there are multiple ways to solve the most complex of legal issues. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is working closely with my clients to help them understand their legal matter and path to resolution. I have appeared before the Provincial and Supreme Court of British Columbia and am a strong advocate for my clients both in and out of court.

Prior to joining Zacharias, I completed my articles and practised as an associate at a prominent Fraser Valley firm in Chilliwack. I obtained my Bachelor of Business before earning my Juris Doctor from Thompson Rivers University, Faculty of Law, in 2017. I was called to the bar in British Columbia in 2018.

I have the desire to assist people navigate the law in order to obtain positive outcomes.  I bring a personalized touch while working with my clients to help them fully understand their legal issues.  I like to provide my clients with the knowledge to make their own informed decision.

I grew up in the lower mainland and I now reside in Abbotsford.  My family owned and operated a business in Abbotsford for more than 25 years, which I worked at for many summers.  Before attending law school, I received a Business-Economics degree on a lacrosse scholarship from Limestone College, South Carolina, where I was a varsity captain and an Academic All American.

Following my undergrad, I obtained my Juris Doctor from the University of Western Ontario in 2019.  While attending law school, I played professional lacrosse in the National Lacrosse League for the Toronto Rock. I was the team representative for the players union, the Professional Lacrosse Players’ Association.  I was an active participant while our Union, representing roughly 300 players, negotiated a new Collective Bargaining Agreement this past year.

I have become involved in every community I have ever lived in.  I have volunteered for organizations such as: Miracle League, Boys and Girls Club, YMCA and Kid Sport.

I joined the Zacharias team because we all share the same values.  We are dedicated to working hard and giving back to our communities.  This approach is something I truly believe in.
